{"id":7087,"date":"2017-06-12T11:22:06","date_gmt":"2017-06-12T11:22:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.limearchive.org.uk\/?p=7087"},"modified":"2017-06-12T15:18:15","modified_gmt":"2017-06-12T15:18:15","slug":"uks-most-multilingual-choir-to-mark-international-festivals-70th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.limearchive.org.uk\/cy\/uks-most-multilingual-choir-to-mark-international-festivals-70th-anniversary\/","title":{"rendered":"(English) \u2018UK\u2019s Most Multilingual Choir\u2019 to Mark International Festival\u2019s 70th Anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"qtranxs-available-languages-message qtranxs-available-languages-message-cy\">Ymddiheuraf, does dim ar gael yn Gymraeg.<\/p><p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Final rehearsals for the multilingual performance underway on official \u2018birthday\u2019 of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod [Sunday 11<sup>th<\/sup> June].<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A choir of 80 amateur singers is set to become the UK\u2019s most multilingual chorus after learning an eight-language performance from scratch in just 10 rehearsals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ambitious \u2018Celebration Chorus\u2019 will perform <em>Calling All Dawns, <\/em>by renowned composer and video game music composer Christopher Tin<em>, <\/em>at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod\u2019s 70<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary festival, as part of it\u2019s evening concert on Wednesday 5<sup>th<\/sup> June 2017. <em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The piece features 12 songs in distinct languages including Farsi, Sanskrit, Swahili, Japanese, Irish, and Maori, eight of which have been taken on by the talented amateur choir.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It will be the first time ever that the complete piece has been performed live under Tin\u2019s direction and features the theme to iconic video game Civilisation IV, <em>Baba Yetu<\/em>, which scooped the first ever Grammy for a video game song.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eilir Owen Griffiths, Music Director for the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, said: \u201cWhat the Celebration Chorus have achieved in just ten rehearsals \u2013 around 30 hours &#8211; is nothing short of incredible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThese are ordinary people with jobs, families and studies to fit into their lives and yet they have managed to master not only the words and music to the piece, but also the nuances of intonation and pronunciation to really convey each song\u2019s meaning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s hard to believe they have gone from being a group of near-enough strangers 10 rehearsals ago to a fully formed choir that we believe is potentially the UK\u2019s most multilingual choir \u2013 if not the world\u2019s!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The international cultural festival, whose official anniversary falls on Sunday 11<sup>th<\/sup> June 2017, created the choir as part of its 70<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary celebrations.
